How to Delay Startup of EIOBoard Desktop Application
Posted by Travis Fleenor on 13 June 2018 05:44 PM

Sometimes you may find that the EIOBoard desktop application starts up too quickly and therefore fails to sync with outlook when it opens. Or there may be very rare cases where it does not consistently start at start up even though it is set to.

When this happens you can use Windows built in Task-Scheduler to delay the start up of EIOBoard (or any application). Task Scheduler is a powerful tool for running programs at given intervals in all kinds of contexts.

The following steps walk you through using for the purpose of running a program on delayed startup.

Steps-

1. Click on the start menu

2. In Search type in Task Scheduler and open it

3. When the Task Scheduler Window opens on the right hand side click on Create Task (not create basic task)

4. Give the task a name.

5. Make sure the task is set to run for the user account you want it to run for. Leave it set to "Run only when user is logged on"

6. Make sure to configure it for the correct OS

7. On the Triggers tab click new

8. In the Begin the task drop down select At log on or At Start up

9. Check the Delay Task for check box and choose the amount of time you wish to delay the task

10. (optional) you can set an active date and expire date for the task, if you never want it to expire check neither

11. Click ok

12. Go To the action tab and click new

13. Choose start a program

14. For the Program/script click on browse and go to "C:\Program Files (x86)\Savance\EIOBoard Application\EIOBoard.exe" (this is assuming you have EIOBoard installed in the default location)

15. Click OK

16. Normally, when you only want to delay startup you can just click ok here but if part of the problem is that EIOBoard failing to start you'll want to put in place a safe guard. Go to the Settings tab

17. Check the check boxes "Run task as soon as possible after a scheduled start is missed" and "If the task fails, restart every:"

18. Choose to have it restart every 1 minute after failure and to attempt restart up to 3 times

19. Leave the other settings as they are

20. Click ok

To prevent the application from running twice you will want to disable the run at startup option inside the EIOBoard settings. Otherwise it may conflict with the scheduled task.

If the application still has problems with startup after this it would be surprising but if it does that's when you would want to use one of the many third party tools available for free download specifically for this purpose.

There are a lot of good pieces of 3rd party software that can do this for you and they are generally safe if you use a reputable one.

One that comes highly recommended is this one, called Startup Delayer - https://www.r2.com.au/page/products/show/startup-delayer/

WinPatrol is also very good but it does much more than just delay startup. You can find it here - http://www.winpatrol.com/download.html

Always remember when downloading freeware and third party software to pay very close attention during install so that you can avoid any agreements to download spyware or bloatware that you do not want. Only agree to download the tool you need.
