Why Would My Auto Return Status Not Process?

If you have a Future Status configured with an Auto Return Status specified, the Auto Return Status will only be processed at the Return Date and Time specified if the Status has not changed since the Future Status Start Date and Time. This applies to any Status change that occurs in between the start and end of a Future Status, whether you change your status manually, another user changes your status, or a separate Future Status is processed during this time.
This functionality is by design. The reason is that the Future Status may end earlier than originally intended, and we do not want to override any manual user intervention.
Let’s look at an example with two overlapping Future Statuses. The same use has two Future Statuses. “Event A” starts at 1PM with a Status of “Meeting” and has an Auto Return of “In” at 4PM. “Event B” starts at 3PM with at Status of “Sales Call” with an Auto Return Statuses of “Out” at 5PM. The way these Statuses would process is as follows, assuming there are no other changes to this user’s status:
- 1PM – The user’s Status will change to “Meeting”, as specified in the “Event A” Future Status.
- 3PM – The user’s Status will change to “Sales Call”, as specified in the “Event B” Future Status.
- 4PM – Even though this is the Auto Return time specified in “Event A”, the user’s Status does NOT change because “Event B” has already changed the user’s Status since the start time of “Status A”.
- 5PM – The user’s Status will change to “Out”, as specified from the Auto Return in the “Event B” Future Status.
