Connection Issues After TLS Security Update
Posted by Elizabeth Stanley on 29 August 2022 01:02 PM

On Sunday, August 28, Savance applied security updates to our cloud servers requiring TSL v1.2 or higher to connect. This caused some outdated client applications running anything lower than .NET Framework v4.7.2 to experience connection issues.

In following industry security best practices, Savance disabled TLS v1.0 and v1.1 on our cloud-hosted servers. These older versions have known vulnerabilities and are deprecated by industry standards. The minimum requirement to comply with the current security standards is .NET Framework v4.7.2 or higher. Our recommended solution is to upgrade the client application to our latest version, specifically 10.5.x or higher. One of the prerequisites of our newer applications is .NET Framework v4.8 and our installer will apply this automatically if it's not already on the system. By upgrading to .NET Framwork v4.7.2 or higher, the EIOBoard application lets the operating system choose the the version of TLS with the strongest security available. As well as supporting TLS 1.2 or higher.

If .NET Framework v4.8 can't be installed on the Device, v10.1.5 is the latest version of EIOBoard that uses .NET 4.6, and it is still able to connect to our cloud hosting. This may be necessary on Kiosks running older versions of the Windows Enterprise OS, or using the Desktop Application on Windows 7.

We apologize for any interruptions in usage this has caused.
