Disabling Automatic Windows Updates
Posted by Dan Thibodeau on 16 October 2019 09:40 AM

Automatic Windows updates can be intrusive to kiosk use.  Windows updates can be manually applied as needed by IT administrators to keep the machine secure and up to date.

  • To disable Windows updates on a kiosk, first open up the Windows Services by clicking the start menu and searching “Services”.

  • Find the Windows update service and stop it. Then you can right click and enter Properties and select “Disabled” for startup type to stop it from turning back on after a restart.

Next to ensure it does not re-enable itself, you can also enter false log-on information in the “Log On” tab.

Select “Ok” and you are done disabling Automatic Windows Updates.
