Overview

Since version 10 is a complete overhaul of many of the core server components, version of SQL server, and IIS settings, the process to upgrade is significantly more involved than other upgrades where you simply ran our on-prem installer and clicked Next, Next, and then Finish.  We are currently working on enhancing our newest v10 on-premise installer to be able to handle the steps outlined in this document, but to handle all the cases is quite and undertaking, so we chose to release v10 before the upgrade path was built into the installer and augment it with a process document that would allow anyone to upgrade to v10 by following a comprehensive guide based on their server situation.  Because of this, upgrading involves uninstalling the current version and installing the newest version while migrating your database, setting, etc. It's important to fully understand the additional steps you'll need to take to make sure you preserve your settings exactly the way they are, make the transition as smooth as possible, and keep downtime to a minimum. During the re-installation, you will need your install key. Do not proceed without it.  If you are doing this after hours, you should check with Savance to make sure that they revoke your existing license or increase your install count - otherwise you will be denied installation after you uninstall.  If this all seems a bit daunting, remember that we do offer a paid service ($400 USD) to white-glove assist you through the entire process over a scheduled web conference.   You can also wait until the installer has provisions to fully and cleanly handle an upgrade path as well.  This is due out sometime in Q3 2018.

Comprehensive Guide

In v10, we only support SQL Server 2012 and higher.  Previous versions of the on-premise server installer installed SQL Server 2005 Express, so this poses a problem for most of the installations.  However, for some installations, SQL Server was installed outside of the installer and the version of SQL Server installed may very well indeed be fully compatible.  For this reason, we have two different help guides depending on which scenario matches your situation.
