My EIOBoard will not connect or establish connection to the database?
Posted by Savance on 28 January 2010 09:32 AM

EIOBoard tries to make a connection to the database to make sure you are running the latest version. If your EIOBoard errors trying to establish a connection to the database here are some solutions:

Note: Microsoft Data Access Controls (MDAC) which is built into Windows and is what the EIOBoard application uses to communicate with the server.

Since MDAC is built into Windows, it is a little difficult to reinstall.  You actually have to repair them.  First of all, make sure you have the latest Windows Updates installed.  If you have the latest Windows Updates installed, here is the resolution for repairing MDAC, taken from Microsoft’s support site:

RESOLUTION

Method 1: Download and install the most recent version of MDAC

To update the MDAC components on your computer, follow these steps.

Note MDAC 2.7 and earlier versions will not install on Microsoft Windows XP. For more information about how to install MDAC on Windows XP, click the following article number to view the article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
304432 (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/304432/) INFO: MDAC 2.7 Redistributable Installer does not install on Windows XP

  1. Visit the following Microsoft Web site:
    http://www.microsoft.com/downloads (http://www.microsoft.com/downloads)
  2. In the Search box, type MDAC 2.8.
  3. For Microsoft Windows XP, select MDAC 2.8. For Microsoft Windows 2000, Microsoft Windows Millennium Edition, and Microsoft Windows 98, select Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC) 2.8 SP1.
  4. Validate your copy of Microsoft Windows, and then click Download.
  5. In the File Download dialog box, click Open, and then follow the instructions that appear on the screen to complete the update of your MDAC components.

If this does not resolve this issue, go to Method 2.

Method 2: Reinstall MDAC components

On Windows XP, if updating MDAC fails, reinstall the most recent version of the MDAC components from the Windows .cab files. To do this, follow these steps.

Note If you have the Windows XP CD, do not finish step 1.

  1. Search for the Adcjavas.inc file, and then note the path. The Adcjavas.inc file is typically in the i386 folder.

  2. Locate the C:\Windows\Inf folder.
  3. Right-click the Mdac.inf file, and then click Install.
  4. When you are prompted to insert the Windows XP CD, insert it. If you do not have the Windows XP CD, change the path to match the path for Adcjavas.inc (in the i386 folder) that you noted in step 1, and then click OK.
  5. If you are prompted to overwrite any files, click Yes.
  6. If you are prompted to restore system files from the Windows XP CD, click Cancel. Or, you may want to do a Repair installation of Windows XP. You must reinstall any Windows Updates or Service Packs after you do this.

Another potential solution would be to either do a Windows Repair or to reinstall SP2.
