Troubleshoot Heavy Webstore Activity
Posted by Jacob Fairbairn on 08 May 2014 03:21 PM

In some cases, you may notice server spikes and high activity on your business system due to webstore activity. This document will give troubleshooting tips on how to limit or avoid certain web crawlers from creating performance bottlenecks in this way.

  1. You can add Google Analytics code inside your webstore files. This will allow you to see webstore stats when you log in to Google, possibly indicating when or where there is high usage on the webstore.
  2. You can add AW Stats to your server to analyze IIS logs. This will display similar information (such as number of hits and bandwidth usage per month), and it even shows IP addresses.
  3. Some crawlers obey rules when crawling a web site. For example, follow the document below if you suspect you may be crawled by the MJ12Bot. http://www.majestic12.co.uk/projects/dsearch/mj12bot.php
