What is the size restriction for image uploads?
Posted by Michael Renock on 03 June 2014 01:28 PM

When uploading product images or logos from the web interface, you may receive a message that the picture you chose is too large:

The maximum allowable file size that you can upload for a picture is 512,000 bytes (500 KB).  If your image file exceeds this maximum allowable size, you will not be able to upload it.  In this situation, there are several things that you can do in order to get the file size down.  A photo editor would be required.

  1. Reduce the compression quality of the photo in such a way where the degradation in quality is not noticeable or minimal.
  2. Crop the photo to remove unnecessary parts of the image, if possible.
  3. Scale the photo down to a smaller size overall that is still acceptable

If the image is a photo that you took with a digital camera, you may want to consider re-taking the picture after reducing the camera's megapixel setting.  This will output a smaller image and file size, and may negate the need for time-consuming photo editing.
